Back on the wagon

Unfortunately, I have two rather bad stress reactions.

Firstly, when I'm under stress my immediate reaction is to want to curl up in bed and ignore the universe. The more stress I'm under, the lazier I want to be.

If I can't do that (which is most of the time) my secondary reaction is to eat (getting comfort from food is a fairly common stress reaction).

Since I've been under a great deal of stress since the beginning of this year with the move preparations and the like, I unfortunately have been doing less exercise and eating more, with the end result of putting some weight back on.

I'm nowhere near as bad as I was, but still it's something I want to fix. When I started my original weight loss I was at 110 kg (242 lbs), and after a year I went down to 82 kg (180 lbs). I then started going to the gym regularly and put on muscle to take me up to about 86 kg (189 lbs). I weighed myself this morning and weighed in at 91 kg (200 lbs), plus lately I've been noticing my pants are getting to be a bit tight, and some of my shirts don't fit quite as well as they used to.

While living with Travis has been good since he's a good cook, I don't have much willpower when it comes to good food, so I've been eating too much. It doesn't help that Travis needs to eat a lot more than I otherwise he looses some of what little body weight he has (bastard! :) ) Working on Lygon St isn't going to help either.

So, I figure it's time to get back into Lite 'n' Easy again. Rang them yesterday and sorted it all out with the first delivery tomorrow and I start on Friday.

This means that for the next few months I'm going to be very strict on what I eat. However, that said, don't think that I don't want to be invited to things where eating will occur, because I do, it just means that I'm going to have to plan a bit in advance, and be careful when I do go out to eat.

Nothing too extreme, and it's all stuff I've done before. As I've said before, my goal is to be happy with myself again by Unicon which is just under three months away. We'll see.

You have my sysmpathies, since I have exactly the same stress reactions. Plus, now I have money, and am able to buy cruddy food here and there. I've managed not to put on weight for several years, but now I'm starting to slide. Grrr.

Heh - I remember when derigueur and I had a friend living with us who loved to cook (we like food, but are naturally lazy). We both put on about 5kg in the few months she was there. Soooo hard to say no, or eat less of it.

I'm thinking I need to join my work gym, silly short contract or no. :-/

The sleepy/stress reaction is one I'm familiar with - its a pretty common reaction to situations that are hard, the brain goes "go to sleep, maybe it will be over".

As for food - mmm, serotonin release :) Its portion sizes that get away from me...

Portion sizes was one of the things that got me up to the 110 kg in the first place, though I didn't realise it until after I started eating properly.

It's hard to not gain weight when you are eating meals 3 times the standard size and thinking they are a normal portion. Ugh!

Good luck with it. I often find that one of the best ways to hold focus when trying to lose weight by a certain date, is to pick an outfit that you want to wear at the event. In your case, pick your favourite pants and hold them as an image in your mind for when you want to achieve by Unicon. Try them on once a week to chart your progress, as if you're excersizing your weight is also affected by muscle weight (which as you know weighs more than fat). Secondly, do not go to events hungry or you will be less discriminate about what you're eating. You could also try bringing substitute foods to friends places, so that when the choccy comes out, you've got something else to eat (it's much harder to say 'no' when you feel like you're missing out on something that everyone else is having).

As this is something I have done before and know I succeed at, it will be a hell of a lot easier this time compared to last time (though without the "Wow!" effect).

Knowing that I'm doing this I find is really good at helping me stick to it. Going to parties and the like I will eat healthily and not over-eat because I know that it's all part of the bigger picture.

I find this so much easier with "A Plan!" than simply trying to lose weight.

And I never say no to chocolate, I just have less of it. :)

OK. So when Liz and I see you and Travis on Saturday, I'll be keeping an eye on how much you snack.
Too many pancakes, and I'll give you extra negs against your dice rolls. :-P
Or just maybe we'll try and have some healthy stuff there as well. Hmmm yes that might be an easier option. OK Fresh Veggie soup for you and pancakes for me. :-)

Actually, I'll most likely be bringing my own snacks and not having much of your snacks at all. Though the healthy stuff is definitely a good idea! :)

Desert Rose

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of fire
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire

This desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

And as she turns
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams
This fire burns
I realize that nothing's as it seems

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of rain
I lift my gaze to empty skies above
I close my eyes
This rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of her love

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

Sweet desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

Sweet desert rose
This memory of Eden haunts us all
This desert flower
This rare perfume, is the sweet intoxication of the fall
