Interesting

A very interesting take on religion, atheists and the like.

A quote attributed to Stephen F. Robert sums it up for me: "We are both atheists, I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."

Technically incorrect, as an atheist is a person who believes that no gods exist, not a person who disbelieves in the existence of a god or gods. Still, the sentiment is obviously that we all believe that gods do not exist, the question being simply which and how many, and so we have a certain common ground.

I've asked some religious people why they disbelieve the existence of gods other than their own in the past. I haven't found it to be a particularly effective technique, because those who don't answer, "Because God is the one true God," (and stick to that come what may) aren't in need of such a prompt in the first place.

Otherwise, the article seems pretty typical to me. Have I missed something that particular piques your interest?

Probably not. I just don't remember seeing it said that way before.

Then again, I'm not usually one to go searching for these sorts of things, so don't tend to encounter them much.

Desert Rose

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of fire
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire

This desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

And as she turns
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams
This fire burns
I realize that nothing's as it seems

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of rain
I lift my gaze to empty skies above
I close my eyes
This rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of her love

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

Sweet desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

Sweet desert rose
This memory of Eden haunts us all
This desert flower
This rare perfume, is the sweet intoxication of the fall
