It's about time. They are damn lucky I haven't cancelled my game and booked a flight to Sydney for Sydcon. Not your fault, of course, I know the disorganisation has been elsewhere.

Ah, dude, class names are case sensitive in HTML. At some stage, you've changed "blurb" to "Blurb" in your HTML, but you haven't updated the CSS on the page for my blurb to match. Half the formatting isn't there, at least in the strictest browsers. Could you update the CSS on that page to match, please?

While you are there, you might like to put ".Trial" at the start of each CSS rule on that page, for consistency and so that, if you make any other changes, you won't have to recheck the CSS on that page.

You've got a bunch of HTML validation errors at the template level, too, but I don't know what problems, if any, they will cause with CSS in different browsers.

Blurb: Actually it was the other way around. I forgot to update your page with the Blurb, because when looking at things locally, they aren't case sensitive (which annoys me no end).

Hmm... If I add a .Trial in front of those styles, they don't work. I still don't quite understand how you properly define a selector like that, so I've just removed it again. It works currently, and that's all that matters.

I've gotten the Trial page down to 5 errors that I can't work out what's wrong. Can you have a look at it?

Oh, I copied the file you submitted to AON up to your webspace and put a link to it from the blurb, so the character list is findable.

My first guess without yet having looked is that the 5 errors are because you have "HTML" in the doctype definition when you should have "html". Element names are case sensitive (and always lower case) in XHTML.

I saw that you put that file up in my webspace. Thanks for that, though I'll revise it tonight. There's some dodgy HTML in it.

Now let's see if my initial guess is correct...

Nope, already fixed that.

The issues it's having are with the AON login footer at the bottom.

Re: updating my page with Blurb, that's what I meant. You changed it in the class attribute, but not in the CSS at the top. My original code used lower-case throughout.

No, my guess wasn't correct! The errors are because in XHTML (and possibly HTML4.01, I don't remember) input elements must be contained without fieldset elements. Put a fieldset element just inside of your form element in the footer. I don't think it will need any particular attributes.

.Trial {background: white; text-align: center; font-family: Tahoma, Verdana, Trebuchet, Trebuchet MS, sans-serif} .Trial h2 {font-family: Old English Text MT, Script MT Bold, Edwardian Script ITC, Palace Script MT, French Script MT, Kunstler Script, fantasy, serif; font-style: italic; font-size: xx-large; margin-bottom: 0em} div.Trial {margin-top: 2em; margin-bottom: 4em; font-family: Georgia, serif} div.Trial p {font-size: 112.5%; max-width: 36em; margin-top: 0.5em; margin-bottom: 0.5em} div.Trial p em {display: block; margin-top: 0.5em; margin-bottom: 1.5em} .Trial p {max-width: 40em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto} .Trial p.author, p.tagline, p.note, p.disclaimer {} .Trial p.author {margin-bottom: 1em; margin-top: 0px} .Trial p.disclaimer {font-style: italic}

You can't put the .Trial in front of div.Blurb, because the Trial and Blurb classes are on the same element. According to spec, div.Trial.Blurb should work, but not all browsers meet spec in that regard. IIRC, div.Trial.Blurb will work in Firefox 2 & 3, IE6+, Opera and Safari, and possibly others, but you'd want to test.

Argh! Damned Livejournal, showing me different line breaks in preview mode. I'm sure you can sort out that code, though.

I worked that out just a moment ago.

Uploading the changes now, should be right within a minute or so.

Took me much longer to type up my response than to figure out the error.

Aw, heck, look at the time! Gotta go.

Desert Rose

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of fire
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire

This desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

And as she turns
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams
This fire burns
I realize that nothing's as it seems

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of rain
I lift my gaze to empty skies above
I close my eyes
This rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of her love

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

Sweet desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

Sweet desert rose
This memory of Eden haunts us all
This desert flower
This rare perfume, is the sweet intoxication of the fall
