Breeding for stupidity?

I usually avoid getting involved in the politics of other countries, but this makes my blood boil: Revisionaries

Summary: The state of Texas is the second largest textbook buyer in the US (only California buys more). Religious conservatives have managed to get controlling power over what goes into the textbooks that the state buys. They are deliberately perverting the information that the next generation will be taught as fact to push their own agendas.

It makes me sick to know that sort of selfish stupidity goes on.

Yeah, let's completely disregard facts and scientific evidence that can be seen, touched, measured, and/or otherwise documented because it doesn't jive with a story someone made up a few thousand years ago. FUCK.

I love Texas, but I want to strangle some of the people who live here.

Yeah, I've been following the McLeroys for years, dismayed at their slow march to power. Mostly in the context of their worrying about evolutionary biology, but also in their quest for, as they put it, "asexual phrases," things like "married couple" as a replacement for "man and wife." (Apparently, "married couple" is a phrase only homosexuals use.)

California is so hosed right now that its balancing force isn't going to help. America is pretty doomed right now.

Desert Rose

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of fire
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire

This desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

And as she turns
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams
This fire burns
I realize that nothing's as it seems

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of rain
I lift my gaze to empty skies above
I close my eyes
This rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of her love

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

Sweet desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

Sweet desert rose
This memory of Eden haunts us all
This desert flower
This rare perfume, is the sweet intoxication of the fall
