Quick Question: Continued...

Thanks for all the people who gave their opinions on the PS2/Game Cube/XBox question. I'm still interested in people's opinions, so if you haven't put your thoughts down and you want to, please do.

The reason I am asking is this: Kmart is currently having their big Toy Sale for Christmas. You heard correctly, Christmas. No, it's not Christmas season gone wild, it's just that during the sale Kmart have no-deposit lay by until Christmas, so it's perfect for people who have a lot of presents to buy, or big presents to buy, etc.

Currently they have good deals on the game consoles as part of this sale, and I'm thinking of picking up one (or at least, I was thinking of picking up one, now I'm thinking of picking up two, maybe all three) and paying it off as I go.

Prices for the sale are:
Platinum Game Cube with hand controller - $98 (no games or accessories)
Miscellaneous Game Cube games and accessories - from $29.95 to $79.84

PlayStation 2 pack (includes console, hand controller, 8Mb memory card, Ratchet & Clank 2 and Midnight Club) - $298
PS2 accessories - $9.89 to $47.84
Miscellaneous PS2 game - 2 for $50 and $26.84 to $79.84

XBox pack (includes console and 2 hand controllers, DVD remote, Crimson Skies and Blinx) - $298
XBox accessories - $29.84 to $47.84
Miscellaneous XBox games - 2 for $50 and $34.99 to $74.84

So, not sure what I want.

Games wise, I'm more of a platform type game person. Not really interested in the racing games and the fighting games, but that said I probably will get one fighting game of some sort, simply because a games machine needs one. Plus I remember when the PS2 first came out and friends had one, there was a snowboarding game that I quite liked the look off, because it wasn't just a racing game as there was also the tricks to pull during the race as well.

Thoughts?

Out of those packages, I'd be going for the PS2 deal - it comes with the memory chip, which you'd otherwise be buying separately for PS2, plus Ratchet and Clank 2 (the first one is an excellent platform game, I haven't played the second one yet), plus my experience with an Xbox controller is that it is an awkward blob. I can't comment on the Gamecube though.

If you're interested in Platforms then I'd probably go for the PS2, there are some for the Gamecube but not enough to keep you interested. I have a couple you can borrow for each platform anyway, but the Ratchet and Clank series is my all time favourite platform game set, and there's a number of other similarly good titles for the PS2. Xbox is really good for things like fighting/shooting/driving "boy" type games.

The snowboarding game I'd recommend is SSX 3 you can get it for both PS2 and GC (PS2 version recommended) and it's full of silly tricks. There's always Amped/Amped2 for the xbox though.

Dead Or Alive III on the XBox is a bloody good fighting game.

Considering that Microsoft and Sony are releasing their next generation consoles later this year (or is it next? Could have sworn it was for this Christmas) the price may drop even further, but take that advice with a grain of salt.

I don't like consoles personally, but what it comes down to really is what games each one has got and what appeals to you. Of course if you can afford it, you may as well get all three and then you've got the market cornered. I will admit though that Crimson Skies on XBox is a bloody fun game.

In regards to platformers, you should pick up "Beyond Good & Evil". I know it's available for PC (and considering your PC can handle World of Warcraft, it can handle that). And it should be dirt cheap now as Electronics Boutique is having it's game sale currently. One of the consoles also has it, but I couldn't tell you which one.

I have Beyond Good & Evil for PS2. It's hard to track down, being out of print, but you can find it second-hand.

And yeah, I wouldn't go putting a console on lay-by. A quick googling says that PS3 and XBox2 are due out early next year - the release of those will kill prices for existing consoles, and the expectation of the price drop will continue to apply a strong downward pressure on prices.

Desert Rose

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of fire
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire

This desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

And as she turns
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams
This fire burns
I realize that nothing's as it seems

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of rain
I lift my gaze to empty skies above
I close my eyes
This rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of her love

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

Sweet desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

Sweet desert rose
This memory of Eden haunts us all
This desert flower
This rare perfume, is the sweet intoxication of the fall
