Got home from work yesterday evening and fed myself and the kids (who are doing much better, thankfully), put on a sprinkler and then watched Better Homes and Gardens. Afterwards I turned off the sprinkler, and puttered around the house doing some stuff. Very little time was actually spent on the computer, so I consider that a good thing. I ended up going to bed early for a change.
This morning the alarm went off at 8 (very early for me!) and I actually got out of bed at 9 (also very early for me). Got on the computer to pay bills, and I ended up having a lot less bills and a lot more money than I was expecting. Rent was paid and the two bills due this week, leaving only one bill due next week in the to do list. I also checked out some video that I had downloading. When "Dead Like Me started on TV I wanted to watch it (it sounded cool) but I was busy the night it was on so I missed the first part of it. Once I show like that starts I really don't like jumping into the middle of it, so I haven't been watching it. I decided I want to have a look at it, so I was downloading a couple of episodes to check out. The pilot finsihed downloading this morning, so I watched the first bit of it, to make sure it was in English, and was in a format I could view (it was). I ended up watching to first 10 minutes or so, and I have to say I've liked what I've seen so far. The lead character (George) is an evil, sadistic and sarcastic girl, and she's not even dead yet! I am definetly buying this on DVD.
Puttered around the house again for a while doing stuff (including a load of dishes) and then went to Indooroopilly Shopping Centre to do some shopping. While there I bought myself an exercise mat (doing any sort of exercise on a polished hardwood flood is not a good idea), had lunch (my one luxury of the week is eating a healthy fast food luch on Saturdays), put some more money on the PS2/Gamecube layby, and joined a gym!
I am now a member of Fitness First at Indooroopilly. I asked about joining and they got the guy who's responsible for that type of thing to give me the tour around the place, and I have to say I am very impressed. The previous gym I was a member (Zest, at Dockside, which is now closed) was no where near as good. The entirty of the old gym would have fitted into the cardio room at the new one!
Very nice place. Lots of cardio machine (about 20 each of the bikes, treadmills and low-impact walkers (no idea what they're called) plus half a dozen rowing machines) and all of the cardio machines (except the rowers) have headphone jacks on them so you can listen to whats on any of the 17 TV's in front (tuned to 8 different channels). There was a good area set aside for stretches and ab work, heaps of free weights and machine weights, plus a group excercise studio and a bike studio.
Then there was the locker rooms. Nice, large and clean with free lockers (you need a $2 coin to get the key, but you get it back when you're finished). Plus there was the shared relaxation area (shared with the ladies, that is). It included a sauna, steam room and a monsoon shower (large quantities of water falling straight down, good for quickly washing the sweat off, or a quick massage).
There was also a small video DVD library, free for members, a sport massage therapest who works there, and a suppliments shop in the complex (not that I'll be needing that).
All in all, I was quite impressed.
One of the specials at the moment is the joining fee was cut to less than half (deal!) so I signed up. I also made use of the other special at the moment and got three personal trainging sessions for the price of one, and signed up for the orientation session at 2:00pm. They then game me my joining pack of a Fitness First backpack, Fitness First cap, Fitness First waterbottle, Fitness First towel (it's tiny! :)) and Fitness First headphones. Neat!
I finished up at about 12:30, so I ducked out of there and over to Mitre 10 to buy a screw.
Now, the area down stairs under the house is on two "levels" with a difference of about 10cm (4 inches) between them. The owner had strung a chain above the step to stop people tripping over it. The problem was it made it very hard for moving through that area with constantly having to duck under this chain when you wanted to cross it, or walking right around the back steps. In the Innovations catalogue they had a folding lattice that expanded out from about 40cm to about 1.8m, perfect for that area, so I ordered one a couple of weeks ago. It arrived on Thursday and when I put it together (ie, I screwed on the two legs to the rest) I noticed one of the four screws had been miscast, and the phillips head slots weren't deep enough to be actually used.
As a result I wanted another screw, so to Mitre 10 it was. For that one screw I ended up buy a pack of 100, but I'm sure they are going to be useful ayway.
Then home to fill the waterbottle, get a bigger towel, put on a load of washing, pet the cats and back to Fitness First in time for the orientation session. That went well. There were four of us (myself, another guy, and two ladies) and basically it was just one of the Personal Trainers showing us around the place and how to use a number of the machines (each of the cardio types, and about half a dozen of the weight machines. Since I had been a gym member before I was aware of all of this, but the refresher was nice to have) and see if any of us wanted to sign up to use her as our Personal Trainer. Myself and the other guy did.
I will have to be honest and say that the other guy in the session was cute! :) His reasons for joining the gym were interesting. He had just joined the Army Reserve, and was only just barely accepted, so needed some time at the gym so he could put on weight! Yes, that's right, put ON weight. I wouldn't say this guy was skinny, but from the look of him he was very wiry, and I doubt very much he was carrying an ounce of excess weight on him. Add to that very tanned skin (naturally tanned in the sun) sun blonde hair, and a spike earring, and he was very cute!
After that was done, I decided to make use of the facilities before going home and did "15 minutes" on the low-impact cardio machine. I say "15 minutes" because I specified 15 minutes on the machine, and then it did 15 minutes of excercise, and then another 3 minutes of cooldown. By the time I finished that I was feeling a bit on the buggered side, but my body definetly remembers what to do, that's for sure. The diet I'm currently on is 1500 callories a day. I burnt off 242 of those calories in those "15" minutes! :)
Then home. Hung out the washing, put on another load, and weeded the garden! Most of the weeds in the front and side beds are gone now, but I have a feelling I'm going to have to do this about once a fornight or so until I get them all. After that I hung out the second load of washing, had a shower, and decided that I was stuffed. My legs has that slightly achy feel to them that indicates they are slightly upset at me for reminding them about exercise. :) I then decided that I still had a reasonable amount of money left in the bank, so I paid the bill that was due next week (after already paying as well last week, and I'll probably pay it again next week! The more I pay, the less I have to pay in the future.)
So, plans for this evening are as little as possible. Probably some World of Warcraft (must feed the addiction!) but not much else.
