Thoughts on a midnight steamy

I was a good boy today.

I had decided to go out and spend a lot of money on something that was a necessary purchase, but ended up persuading myself that it actually was a luxury so I didn't get it.

The it in question was a portable air conditioning unit. About $700 would be able to properly air condition (ie refrigerative air conditioning, not evaporative) one room, however that would involve some fiddling around and spending a lot of the money I was intending to put aside for the next little while.

Much as I would like some proper air conditioning, one of those portable units, while they do work, is not the best idea. It would jack up the electricity bill something shocking and would eventually costing a hell of a lot of money in the long run.

Maximum temperature according to the Bureau of Meteorology was 35.2 C (95.4 F) and current temperature is about 24.5 C (76.1 F) with a relative humidity of 88%. Hot and steamy, and not conducive to just about anything.

An air conditioning unit would have gone down well about now...

Oh well, I think I have another plan. What I am thinking of doing is saving up a bit of money and then seeing if the owner will split the cost of installing some proper air conditioning units in the place. I'm intending to be here for another 18 months or so, so this summer and the next. It will probably prove to be worth it in the long run.

We'll see.

I once bought a portable air conditioning unit.
It was crap.
We got better results from hanging a wet bedsheet up in front of the open balcony door, and letting the evaporation cool the place off.

Desert Rose

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of fire
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire

This desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

And as she turns
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams
This fire burns
I realize that nothing's as it seems

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of rain
I lift my gaze to empty skies above
I close my eyes
This rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of her love

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

Sweet desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

Sweet desert rose
This memory of Eden haunts us all
This desert flower
This rare perfume, is the sweet intoxication of the fall
