Happy birthday to me!

Had to get up early today because a friend was coming round to steal my fridge. He also stole the trolley, but he promises to return that tonight.

Since I was up early (ish) I decided to stop off at the Department of Births, Deaths and Marriages on the way to work and do a little bit of paper work.

Half an house (err, make that half an hour...) and $113 later Andrew Jones is no more.

Random Halloran Jones is here instead. I've got no paperwork to prove the name change yet as that comes in the mail later, but it's been done. It feels good to be me.

Happy NameDay, Random.

It cost you $113 dollars and HALF A HOUSE! It's gone up.

I too, appear to have one less fridge. This one keeps blowing the fuses, it seems.

I still think you should have changed your middle name to Danger...

Anyway, well done that man, and welcome to the club. You now officially have a mysterious past :)

Ok, I have to admit, that's an image I hadn't thought of.

However, I won't complain if I get a hug from Fergie's tackle.

What?!!

...Ohhhh! I thought you were responding to the 'flying tackle hug' comments above, as opposed to the actual subject of Random's post.

As in:

Random: However, I won't complain if I get a hug from Fergie's tackle.
Amber: It is indeed a great feeling - one that will probably never leave you.

And then my brain broke. ;)

I didn't even realise I'd set the page up like that when I wrote the first comment involving tackle. Damn that's funny :)

Do we start calling you RJ now? :þ

Congratulations though!

I must say, I was surprised at the cost. When I changed my name to I.I. it only cost around $40, and the second time I changed my name, it was around $45, and those were 1997 and 2002 respectively.

Two things.

Firstly, different states have different rules, and change ones name is handled by the state.

Secondly, it was only $88 to change my name, but I chose to pay an extra $25 for a new copy of my birth certificate as well.

Wow! I am still surprised - the price I mentioned before included a new copy of my birthday certificate.

It's interesting that it's governed by the states. Had you been living in Victoria, would that have meant returning to Queensland to change your name?

It seems there are a few people in our friends lists who have also had name changes!

The base $88 included either the Change of Name certificate, or the new Birth Cerificate. The extra $25 gives you both.

And yes, since I was born in Queensland, I have to do name changes via the Queensland department. If I was living in Victoria I would still have to do it here.

But you don't have to physically go there to do it.

Congratulations!!

Now you just need to learn to ANSWER to your new name... Next time I shout "RANDOM!!" at you at a book fair I don't want to have to resort to "OI!! AJ!!"..

Desert Rose

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of fire
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire

This desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

And as she turns
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams
This fire burns
I realize that nothing's as it seems

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of rain
I lift my gaze to empty skies above
I close my eyes
This rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of her love

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

Sweet desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

Sweet desert rose
This memory of Eden haunts us all
This desert flower
This rare perfume, is the sweet intoxication of the fall
