The car park is open from 7:00am to 7:00pm Monday to Friday, and when it closes the roller door at the entrance automatically closes.
This is the email I just sent to the people who manage the car park where I park.
I'm not sure if you can help me, but I figured you are the best person to talk to at the moment.
I lease Lot #141 at the Astor Terrace Car Park.
This evening (Thursday the 7th) I was returning to the car park from work at about 5 or 10 past 7. The car park at this time was of course closed. As I am walking up I notice the boom gate was not in it's usual position for being closed. Instead of pointing straight up, it was pointing about 30 degrees further past it. I assumed that it had been damaged again, and waved my pass card at the sensor and walked up to the boom gate to have a look.
I couldn't notice any obvious damage, other than it wasn't where it usually was.
By this stage the roller door should have started opening, but it hadn't. I looked at the door and noticed the damage and then worked out why it hadn't opened. As far as I could tell, it looked like someone had backed into the closed door from the inside or pried the corner up from the outside as the bottom half of the left hand side (looking from the outside facing forward) was outside the guide rails.
Then the roller door started going up, and there was no way I could stop it. As you can probably imaging, the door attempting to open with nearly half of it off it's rails only made the damage worse. With metal pieces flying off and the door screeching it's way up, I feared for serious injury.
Eventually the door stopped moving, mostly open. At about this time a young lady wandered up to the entrance and asked if she could follow me out, as she had just missed the person manning the exit and had no way of getting out. I said yes, and we both wandered inside.
I was quite a bit flustered from the door opening by now.
At this point the other tenant arrived. As I am standing inside the gate talking to the young lady, a car pulls up to the entrance and starts to come in. I figure this is someone who assumes the car park is still open (as I have talked to the people who man the gate and been told of many people who try and get in after 7pm when the gate is closed, and just do not get the fact that it is no longer available for public parking and try and argue with them) and wants some public parking, not realising that there is no way out once I leave.
I do the polite thing and put my hand up and tell them that it's closed. They keep coming, so I assume they didn't hear my so I yell that it's closed. They still keep coming. By this stage the front of the car is touching me, and they are still moving, and end up pushing me with the car for about 2 meters before I am able to get out of the way.
Combined this with the fact that I thought I was going to be seriously injured by flying metal fragments when the door was opening, I was almost in shock.
This man then proceeds to wind down the window and abuse me. I'm still trying to tell him that the car park is closed, but he wouldn't have a bar of it. After abusing me and insulting me, he then asks me how many spaces in the car park I own. At about this time I realise that he's another tenant.
He then proceeds to tell me that he owns 14 car spaces, in such a manner as if it makes him royalty and me a peasant.
He then starts accusing me of damaging the roller door, and saying that he should call the police on me.
I then try and tell him that I thought he was someone who didn't have after hours access and I was trying to help him, however I didn't get any further than the word "thought" when he's at it again with the insults, this time insulting my intelligence and inferring that I am too dumb to think, and then calls me a few other choice names as well.
At this point I walk away as he was getting me very close to making me do something that I would later regret.
I am well aware that if he owns spaces, then he probably doesn't have any dealing with you, however I was wondering if it would be possible to find out who he is? He was an older gentleman (older than me, that is), probably in his 40s or 50, and was driving a dark blue car with European style licence plates, and he parked his car in one of the corner bays on the level above the exit, at the front side on the Astor Tce/Portman Lane corner, in the one on the Portman Lane side. I will find out the lot number tomorrow.
His attitude was rude, condescending, insulting and his actions were dangerous to me and the young lady standing next to me. All it would have taken would have him or the lady in the passenger seat to wind down the window and say they had after hours access and I would have gotten out of the way without a problem.
It has been over two and a half hours since the incident occurred, and I am still shaking from it, and am seriously considering going to the police with what happened. At the very least I wish to write a letter to this joker explaining what happened.
I'm sorry to trouble you with this.
