Quote of the Day (yesterday actually...)

It's 12:30 in the morning, and once again I'm at work.

I'd be annoyed if I didn't like what I was doing.

So, may I present to you, the Quote of the Day:

Transported to a surreal landscape, a young girl kills the first woman she meets and then teams up with three complete strangers to kill again.
Rick Polito

Now, the challenge to you is thus: This is actually a review of a movie. What is the movie? No cheating and looking up Google and the like, I want people to guess.

It has to be The Wizard of Oz. The quote is so sensationalist that it can't be taken at face value. Dorothy gets swept away in a tornado and kills the witch with her house; then she meets the cowardly lion, the tin man, and the scarecrow with whom she kills the wicked witch with water.

Has to be.

No, I didn't cheat; this was my favorite movie as a kid. ;)

Unfortunately, this is a very old and not terribly original riff. I've seen it before. Heck, I think the NPR show Says You regularly does a bit called "Inappropriate Descriptions" and the host uses that one as his example to the audience.

I've already heard this one. It is the Wizard of Oz :)

Friend of mine had a similar style of review for Alien. Now to find it ...

That certainly applies to The Wizard of Oz, though there have been a number of alternate versions of the original movie that it would equally apply to. (Including a version called, simply, Oz, IIRC.)

It's the Wizard of Oz, although the plot description is innacurate - Dorothy never 'meets' the first witch, and her killing is accidental rather intentional (as the description implies it to be).

Easy easy easy, though I liked the book better. The Good Witch of the South was awesome. And I like red. :D

Wizard of Oz?

Misleading, since a) she doesn't actually "meet" the first woman, and b) you can hardly be held to account for what a tornado does with your house.

Thanks to vanadamme I found this quote about two months ago. I think it's the most accurate description of The Wizard of Oz so far.

Desert Rose

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of fire
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire

This desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

And as she turns
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams
This fire burns
I realize that nothing's as it seems

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of rain
I lift my gaze to empty skies above
I close my eyes
This rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of her love

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

Sweet desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

Sweet desert rose
This memory of Eden haunts us all
This desert flower
This rare perfume, is the sweet intoxication of the fall
