The future of Public Transport in Melbourne?

The Victorian Greens have an interesting vision for PT in Melbourne, The People Plan.

Looks fairly comprehensive if you ask me. Now the question is, will it work?

I... am sure its just my browser & flash version, but when I load that page it takes forever to load a large flash object with no links (dumb dumb dumb) ... which then just sits there and flickers like its trying to induce an epileptic attack ... :) the thing is that I am not 100% sure that's not their PT plan..

That bit threw me the first time I looked at it.

The entire first "page" is a link, you just click on whichever of the plans you choose. To look at the transport plan, click on the top half of the flash object.

I agree that the design is a bit suspect, but I'm not really too surprised, coming from the greens.

Not for me. All I get is a big black square with "the people plan" scintillating in the middle of it. Nothing is clickable.

There's some good ideas in it, but there's also a subtle anti-consumerism that is the plan's own worst enemy - maybe the Greens don't like malls, but the fact is that they are hubs of existing public transport, and it makes more sense to complement that than to conflict with it.

I'm thinking in particular of the lack of a station at Epping Plaza on the proposed Aurora train line (a station which would also serve Northern Hospital, given that the proposed route goes right between the two sites), and the tramline that goes a frustrating few hundred metres from Northland, instead of linking up with the dozen or so bus routes that already terminate there. (It wouldn't suprise me to learn that there are other examples at other malls, these are simply the ones I know).
