My Birthday

I've decided that I'm not going to be doing much for my birthday this year.

I turn 29 on the 26th of August, and the current plan is to go out for dinner on Saturday the 23rd somewhere, and then back to my place afterwards for a quiet gathering.

If you are interested in coming along, let me know, so I can work out numbers. Suggestions as to a good restaurant to go to are greatly appreciated.

For my birthday last year, I organised a dinner at Thai On High (Gladstone Rd, Highgate Hill). It's really yummy, fairly inexpensive, and quite relaxed.

The best thing about them, though, is that they were willing to do a deal with me. I did have a large group (20 - 25 people), but I simply presented them with a selection of dishes from their menu, and asked them to give us those for $15 per head. They did this very willingly - although they charged corkage on top ($1.50/head).

I'd recommend it, for sure. There was so much food, we were all waddling afterward, and there were leftovers...

Desert Rose

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of fire
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire

This desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

And as she turns
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams
This fire burns
I realize that nothing's as it seems

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of rain
I lift my gaze to empty skies above
I close my eyes
This rare perfume is the sweet intoxication of her love

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in vain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

Sweet desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

Sweet desert rose
This memory of Eden haunts us all
This desert flower
This rare perfume, is the sweet intoxication of the fall
